
Jessica Michelle Chastain, born on March 24, 1977, is an American actress. Her most famous work is her role in films with female-centric themes. She has won numerous awards, including an Academy Award, and a Golden Globe Award. Time magazine listed her as one of the 100 most influential individuals around the globe in 2012. Chastain was an enthusiastic actor since her early years. She made her stage debut in the role of Shakespeare's Juliet in 1998. She studied acting at Juilliard School and was then signed to a talent-holding deal with John Wells, a television producer. She was a recurring guest on several television series, and took on part in various stage productions. Chastain's film debut was in Jolene (2008) at the age of 31 years old. In 2011, Chastain achieved her breakthrough by releasing six films which included The Tree of Life (2011), Take Shelter (2011), and The Tree of Life (2012). In her roles as an aspiring socialite as well as a CIA analyst, she was awarded Academy Award nominations in The Help (2011) and Zero Dark Thirty (2012). The science-fiction films Interstellar (2014) and The Martian (2015) were commercially more successful than the horror film It Chapter Two (2019). Chastain's strong-willed roles in dramas A Most Valuable Year (2014), Miss Sloane (2016), Molly's Game (2017) and Scenes from a Marriage (2021) were also highly acclaimed. She later played Tammy Faye Bakker in the biopic The Eyes of Tammy Faye (2021) which won her the Academy Award for Best Actress as well as Tammy Wynette in the miniseries George & Tammy (2022). Chastain established Freckle Films to promote diversity in film production. She is also an investor in Angel City FC. She has a strong voice on mental health issues, as also gender and racial equality. Gian Luca Passi de Preposulo is her husband.
